Second day for the cover shoot of Maddison McKibbin for Volleyball Magazine. I spent the morning at the beach, so all in all, not a bad day at work. I shot at the Outrigger Canoe Club (Honolulu, Hi) where Punahou High School senior Maddison McKibbin honed his skills. Today was much more fun, though Maddison might have his own opinion after diving 40+ times to get he opening shot.... Then my response, “Great! Perfect! .. But can you do it again? .. This time an inch to the left, and don’t forget to smile!”. Maddison was actually really easy to work with, and was very enthusiastic throughout.

Day one in the cover shoot of Maddison McKibbin for Volleyball Magazine. I started out in the gym at Punahou High School for most of the shoot with my assistant, Austin. After the 2 1/2 hour session, I realized that something off campus might be more dynamic and story telling. Maddison and I agreed on another location later in the week. All in all, the shoot went well, with my occasional canon flash mishap. I used a 3 light setup (Canon 580EX) and a couple of Canon 1D Mk2’s on Raw.
Great fun yesterday catching up with my old friends, the Powers. The youngest Powers sister, Jane, is graduating... which makes me feel very old. And as Jane reminds me, its because I am. The photos were taken in various spots off Hwy 33 in Ojai and East Ventura.

Just picked up a copy of my first magazine cover. Though I’ve had several double-trucks and inside photos, I’ve never gotten a cover. Thanks again to Austin Larson (my assistant) and Maddison for making the shoot fun. Punahou High School was also very cooperative, as was Outrigger Canoe Club, where the photos were shot. I just did a quick flat bed scan of the mag, so the color and the stitching job is off.
